Girl Put Your Records On {A Cabinet Makeover}

This great old record cabinet was a donation from a friend. With its original pulls, it had a bit of an oriental flavor to it. But not anymore!
Here it is at the sale where he got it. {The same donation sale, by the way, where I picked up a bunch of cool stuff myself and scored the base for our junky fruit bowl}

I decided to sand this one down. The paint was so thin it took hardly any time at all. Then I applied Minwax Jacobean over the top and front of the cabinet.

I didn't sand the inside because it really didn't need it. And I liked the red hue of the stain there. I added some Destin Gulf Green to the edges to match the stripe I ended up putting on the outside.

On the outside, I painted the sides with Vintage White. Then I taped off a stripe and used Destin Gulf Green on that. I followed the stripe around the front of the cabinet in Vintage White.

I also painted the inside doors of the cabinet in Destin Gulf.

I didn't want to use the old, circular pulls. I just didn't like them with the blocky feel of this cabinet. But I had a slight problem... the old pulls had left 2 holes in each cabinet door. I was trying to complete this for a show and didn't have the time to fill the holes. Not to mention, they would have been a bear to fill since they were through and through the door. I had these really pretty pulls from Hobby Lobby that I wanted to use, but I needed to cover up one hole on each door.

I looked around my pile of junk and found a belt. Perfect! The dark brown leather would be a great compliment to the dark stain I had chosen for this cabinet and would cover the holes completely from the front. So I cut 2 pieces to the width of the doors and attached them with E6000. When they were dry, I drilled a hole through the belt, added some washers, and inserted the oh-so pretty knobs.

I'm really loving the addition of the belt!

I'm so glad it's fall, too, because I think the pop of these orange pumpkins looks spectacular on the dark wood of this pretty new record cabinet! And I love orange and teal together, so it's a win-win!

I just know someone is going to enjoy this little beauty! I'm thinking it would be a great cabinet for some board games or, I suppose, maybe even records if someone still uses those! :)
